Worried about nap times? Stressed about feeding in public? Anxious that your baby will be the only one crying?

Stop. Breathe. You are not alone, and at Tiny Whirlwinds, we have seen it all.

Walking into a new group with a baby can be daunting. You’ve barely managed to leave the house with matching socks (yours or the baby’s), and now you’re walking into a room full of strangers. But we want you to know that our classes are a "judgement-free zone."

Here is exactly what happens in a typical 45-minute session, so you can leave the anxiety at the door.

The Welcome

When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by your class leader. You’ll find a mat area for you and your little one. There’s usually a few minutes of "settling in" time where you can chat to other parents while everyone arrives. If you’re late because of a "poo-nami" explosion? Don't worry. We’ve all been there. Just come on in.

The Structure

Our classes follow a familiar rhythm each week, which helps babies feel secure.

  1. Say Hello Song: A gentle start to signal that the fun is beginning.
  2. Sensory Activities: This is the main event. We might bring out the parachute, turn down the lights for a glow show, or introduce a texture tray.
  3. Exploratory Play: A chance for you and your baby to move around and explore the props at your own pace.
  4. Wind Down: We lower the energy levels with calming music and bubbles.
  5. Say Goodbye Song: A signal that the session is finished.

The "Chaos" is Welcome

Here is the golden rule of Tiny Whirlwinds: Do what you need to do.

  • Baby needs feeding? Feed them. Breast, bottle, snack—do it right there on the mat. You don't need to hide away.
  • Baby needs changing? Go for it. We have changing facilities, but if you need to do a quick change on your mat, that’s fine too.
  • Baby is crying? Please, please do not stress. Babies cry. It’s how they communicate. You won't be asked to leave. In fact, you’ll probably find three other mums nodding in sympathy and passing you a spare muslin.
  • Baby is asleep? Let them sleep! They will still absorb the music and the atmosphere. It’s a great chance for you to just sit and enjoy a moment of calm.

A Safe Space for You

We know that sometimes, the class is just as much for you as it is for them. It’s a reason to get dressed, leave the house, and speak to another adult who isn't a health visitor.

So if your baby screams through the entire light show? It’s okay. If they sleep through the bubbles? It’s okay. If you turn up with sick on your shoulder? It’s definitely okay.
